Sasha Darling & The BellJar Blog

Sorry We Are Such Blog Slackers // A Garden Party With One Of Our Favorite Bay Area Makers.

Ok Ok we are children of the 90's and may have watched the movie Slackers one too many times. And maybe our lack  of attention to the blog may make us look like we are living up to our generation, but we promise, we are still here and still busting our butts.

After a somewhat crazy few months the BellJar San Francisco location was finally closed. It was bitter sweet. San Francisco was our first love, but operating under the current economics in SF had begun to feel way too challenging and we really just wanted to focus on our new life and new store down her in sunny LA.

So that's what we've been doing. Building our business in LA. Revamping and focusing on our website! Doesn't it look pretty?? And you know, just being a small business.

Things are going great. We are settled in and very happy. But of course we miss the bay. So when we received an invite to a lunch under the Orchards with one of our favorite bay area makers, The Wilderness Workshop, how could we not return to our home and spend the day in Bolinas with friends old and new.

I, Sasha Darling, Grew up in Bolinas and it remains to this day one of my favorite places on earth, so I'm so happy that friends and peers are moving there and that I have great excuses to return. Even though I'm betraying my hometown even discussing it. (read linked article above)

Thayer, the genius behind The Wilderness Workshop is such a creative force that I had no doubt that this party would be a perfect day. She did not let us down. Shibori died napkins, actual plate-ware and glasses. A big long concession of locally made redwood picnic tables, and the most amazing homemade spread. The sun parted the fog just in time for guests to arrive and we had a beautiful day.

Of course Thayer is also an amazing photographer so I couldn't resist posting some of her pictures for y'all.

In the House Of Lovers LA Pop-up

Explore the art of Lise Silva creator of the sacred knot and Mary Elizabeth Evans the creator of Spirit Speak Tarot.

Together they have created In The House of Lovers. Come by and meet these lovely talented ladies.

Thursday Dec 3

3-7 at BellJar, Los Angeles

There will be drinks, Tarot readings, and creative energy all around!

In 2015 Mary & Lise launched In The House of Lovers, a collection of ceremonial artwear and one of a kind wall hangings that incorporate fiber, metals, and crystals. Drawing from their respective backgrounds in metalwork & fiber art, they use a wide range of techniques and materials to create each piece. Mary translates her whimsical tarot illustration into figurative metal pendants depicting hands, stars, eyes, and other powerful symbols. Lise uses color and design to construct a piece that supports or expounds upon the essence of Mary's charms. Their work is best described as statement jewelry, as each handcrafted, bold piece is imbued with special meaning. From weddings to protests, they have adorned In The House of Lovers wearers for the most sacred events.

Meghan Shimek Opening Party

Come explore the beautiful artwork of Meghan Shimek!

Her opening party will be Friday, November 6th from 6-9 at BellJar (3187 16th St.)

Join us to sip champagne and meet this talented Bay Area artist!

The show will be on display at BellJar from November 6th -January 1st.

Meghan Bogden Shimek is a weaver and fiber artist living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Meghan is inspired by her past, present and future. She integrates the natural beauty of her surroundings, the memory of quiet snowy nights, and the sound of the stream running under her home into every weaving. Meghan uses traditional tapestry and Navajo weaving techniques with raw fibers and objects to create abstract and textural wall hangings.

In her own magical words

"Restraint. From the moment of our birth we are taught to restrain ourselves, quiet our cries and fit into the world. The universe will always propel us forward; yet we hold ourselves back through pain, fear, anxiety, and doubt. There is beauty in restraint. Allowing ourselves to have a moment, a breathe, the sun on our skin to feel. The most growth often comes from pain and like the snake, we cannot rip off our skin, we must shed it at the rate in which it is meant to be shed."

Bringing Good Vibes

Its been a while since Ive done any personal updates here on the Blog. Its been a crazy new year with getting BellJar LA opened. My life has changed so much since the days of SF and I'm relly excited to share and grow with you all.

After three years of soul searching and some much needed me time, I'm so excited about the new store and bringing some new intentions to the space. I have been holding meditations at my house for the last year and will now be holding them at the store, so that I can invite more people to join in.

I will hold them every Tuesday at 7PM. Universe willing, rain or shine, I will be at the store meditating and inviting in new intentions to my space and my life. I also hope to have some of the beautiful ladies that I have met in LA to hold space from time to time as well as have special full moon meditations etc.

Another thing Ive been really passionate about as of late is Tapping also known as EFT (emotional Freedom Technique.). Rather than explain it here I will past a few videos and a link to my youtube page where I have been recording some tapping sessions to follow along with.

If any of you want to be involved please do not hesitate to contact me. Or just stop in and we can do a mini tapping session in the store! I hope to add this element into my business and grow and evolve with you all.
