In 2015 Mary & Lise launched In The House of Lovers, a collection of ceremonial artwear and one­ of­ a ­kind wall hangings that incorporate fiber, metals, and crystals. Drawing from their respective backgrounds in metalwork & fiber art, they use a wide range of techniques and materials to create each piece. Mary translates her whimsical tarot illustration into figurative metal pendants depicting hands, stars, eyes, and other powerful symbols. Lise uses color and design to construct a piece that supports or expounds upon the essence of Mary's charms. Their work is best described as statement jewelry, as each handcrafted, bold piece is imbued with special meaning. From weddings to protests, they have adorned In The House of Lovers wearers for the most sacred events.

Halloween is a time to embrace magic, mystery, and all things spooky.

This is the time of year when the veils between the worlds are thinnest... and having your tarot cards read is a perfect way to get your night off to a mystical start.

Tarot cards have been used for hundreds of years as a way to gain insight into questions that we cannot answer ourselves. They aid us in seeking knowledge about the unknown through supernatural means. They are most commonly used to help us measure potential outcomes involving situations with people or certain events in our lives. Tarot cards can bring ideas and possibilities to light that we would have never thought of on our own.

Matthew Drewry Baker of The Hanged Man Co. is a San Francisco based artist and fortune teller who will be helping us all get in the magical mood with tarot card readings. Matthew will summon enchantment and will guide us as we glance into our future. He will send us off into a spooky night full of ghouls and ghosts with just the right amount of inner-reflection and some seriously witchy vibes. Join us for tarot card readings and blood orange cocktails on Halloween, Friday the 31st from 4pm-7pm. 

As you all know we love furry creatures here at BellJar. Some adorn our walls forever more and some are little fat piglets that run around and greet you as you walk through the doors. I got my dog through Rocket Dog Rescue and most of you have experienced how amazing she is! This is such a great event and a cause I believe in immensely. So when G over at The Avant-Gardist asked us to lend out our fabulous fashions for the event, how could I say no! Especially since we recently were fostering the little dog Sonic...and we are still hoping to find him a good home! So Please come out in support~ xo

Gallery BellJar presents Scott Greenwalt April, Friday the 16th- 6-9 PM These are portraits of irregularity, malformation, deviation, degradation and disintegration. I see them as intimate celebrations of abnormality and imperfection. There is, admittedly, a macabre sensibility to my imagery; however, I see these morbid depictions in a romantic light. Through my paintings, I aim to peel back the veneered surface and magnify the grotesque and bizarre dimensions populated with twisted mutations of flesh and bone. Within this, I am fascinated by the phenomenon of repulsion; the impulse to turn away from sensory input which we find disquieting, both on an individual basis and on larger scales of culturally mitigated standards. I am interested in the psychological underpinnings of what makes an image simultaneously attractive and repellent.

The Shoting Gallery always curates such amazing shows. They make me wish I had a wee bit more time to focus on the Gallery Portion of BellJar...but I would say we do a pretty good job. The upcoming show Meticulous Engagements Kris Kuksi & Christy Langer is on my list of do not miss for next month.
