Who remembers the Biba Girl? I often regret I was not born in time to shop at the magical Biba store.
The first store, in Abingdon Road in Kensington, was opened in September 1964 but sadly it closed in around 1979 after a bunch of ups an downs, successes and failures including a bombing by a radical group in 1971.
Loved by the likes of Bianca Jager, Twiggy, Mick Jagger, David Bowie and MaryAnne Faithful, Biba was a unique mix of Art Nouveau decor and Rock and Roll decadence. I still covet it's style and try to recapture here at BellJar. Come on be a Biba girl, or at the very least a BellJar Girl™.
